Kobe Bryant Full Highlights
All Field Goal Attempts
LA Lakers vs Sacramento Kings
April 14, 2000
Staples Center

- 31 pts, 5r, 5a, 3s, 3b / 13-21 fg, 1-2 3pt, 4-6 ft

With just a week remaining in the regular season, the Lakers and Kings found themselves opposite each other in the 1-8 playoff bracket. At 66-12, Los Angeles had easily clinched the Western Conference’s 1st seed, as well as the NBA’s best overall record. On the other hand, Sacramento stood at a respectable 44-34 as they vied with Seattle for the 7th spot.

Nearing the finish of his 4th season, Kobe entered the night averaging 22.4p, 6.2r, 4.9a and 1.6s on 47-33-82 (%) in 38 mpg through 62 games. Combined with their first round series, the Lakers and Kings met 9 times during the 1999-00 campaign. In those 9 meetings, Kobe averaged 29.0p, 6.3r and 4.4a on 53-37-78. While Sacramento struggled with Prime Shaquille inside, they also had no answers for Bryant on the perimeter.

I decided to include all of Kobe’s field goal attempts in this one. On the surface, he was an efficient 13-21. However, nearly all of the misses appeared to be unforced, quality looks. He started very well, going 6-12 in the first half. The remaining two quarters saw him perform even better, totaling 19 points on 7-9.

One of the “staples” of Laker games at the Staples Center is their PA (public address/announcer) Lawrence Tanter. 1981-82 marked his first season as the Purple & Gold’s home arena voice (then at The Forum). In April of 2018, Tanter was forced to miss a pair of games. An article written by lakersnation.com at the time states, “Tanter missed two games this season due to feeling under the weather, which marked a first since 1997…” (https://lakersnation.com/lakers-news-...)

The PA for this Lakers-Kings Kobe showcase is unquestionably not the Lakers’ signature voice. This means that the quoted excerpt above is either mistaken, or perhaps simply unclear as to whether the ‘97 absence consisted of multiple events or just one. I was unable to find anything that may provide an answer as to why there was a replacement on the evening of April 14, 2000. Its a rare occurrence, one that may not interest everybody. But for those that find it intriguing, I opted to share.
