Original DVD Release: 2007

Welcome to a look back at one of the most exciting Midwest events of the year - the Midwest Old Threshers Reunion in Mount Pleasant, Iowa! The annual 5-day event, featuring numerous things to see and do, is also a very special place for train lovers of all ages - and you get to see all of the great trains & trolleys that operated during the 2007 Reunion in this video. The Midwest Central Railroad is home to narrow-gauge steam trains of all shapes and sizes. You'll get to see all three of the railroad's operable steam locomotives in action: 2-6-0 Mogul "Maria" #6, three truck Shay #9, and 0-4-0 tank engine #16. Many different trackside shots are featured, along with rides aboard the train on two different days. You'll even see some special freight trains being operated with engines 9 and 16, and a train robbery at the north station. Also at Old Threshers are historic standard-gauge trolleys operated by the Midwest Electric Railway. We'll see the trolleys as they take people through the campgrounds, and also take a ride on many cars to several stations on this interesting electric line.

"Trains in the Heartland" was my first series of train videos that I made between 2005 and 2013, and were originally released on DVD only (some later HD titles I also burned to Blu-ray). Trains in the Heartland was a compilation series featuring all the trains I filmed in that time period. Once I got an hour or so of video, I'd make a new DVD. As a result, this series covered a wide assortment of trains from all over Iowa, Missouri, and Illinois. While many DVD's were built up of footage from a number of different places, some titles were based around one specific theme or event. The Old Threshers videos were one of these, and became some of my favorite videos to produce each year. I've filmed the trains and trolleys at Old Threshers every year since 2005, and nine of these years were featured in my Trains in the Heartland series, in volumes 4, 11, 17, 23, 31, 38, 48, 52, and 58. After 2013, I decided to drop the "Trains in the Heartland" name to focus more on specifically themed train videos and projects. The Old Threshers videos from 2014 onward were titled "The Trains at Old Threshers" that continues today. Over time, I'm going to upload each of these older "Trains in the Heartland" installments to YouTube, so all of you can watch & enjoy my original video productions online, anytime!

NOTE: You may notice that this video is lower quality than my other widescreen videos - this is because I was still filming with my older Sony DCR-TRV460 camcorder, that recorded footage on Digital8 tapes. Although its default setting was to record video in Standard Screen (4:3 aspect ratio), there was also an option for Widescreen (16:9 aspect ratio), and I was experimenting with that at the time. One major drawback of using this recording setting was the camera's "SteadyShot" feature was disabled, so the video came out a little more jerky than normal 4:3 video. And of course, the camera couldn't film in HD, so having a 16:9 picture size for standard quality video was kind of unnecessary. As a result, I later decided to revert to filming in standard screen the rest of the time I used this camera, which would end up being another 5 years!

I hope you enjoyed this look back at the 2007 Midwest Old Threshers Reunion. Don't forget to check out my current series "The Trains at Old Threshers" documenting all of the Old Threshers Reunions from 2014 onward! See all my train videos by subscribing to my YouTube channel:
