Cartoons are awesome! Action movies are awesome! But what about cartoons that are also action movies? The best! But how the hell do you narrow such a broad category down to just ten? That’s the same question we’ve asked ourselves all week! So here, from anime to pixar and rotoscoping to motion capture, are the 10 best animated action movies of all time.

On a literal level, the idea of animated action is basically redundant: action is animate and animation is active - for the sake of this list, let’s limit it to movies, as in feature films, with a substantial amount of fast-paced exciting stuff happening thanks to the magic of animation. But animated badassery has a long and winding history, so with another Miles Morales adventure swinging back onto the big screen with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse, let’s dig in.
