Boney Kapoor's latest production venture Maidaan starring Ajay Devgn has just released on Eid last week and the film has received a huge thumbs up from critics and audiences alike. In this candid tete-a-tete with Galatta India host Nayandeep Rakshit, we traced his journey and the whole struggle behind it. While his father Surinder Kapoor was a producer himself, Boney reveals a few failures, dad's ill health and a huge debt forced him to take reins of the family film business and he and his brother Anil Kapoor then finally worked towards creating this huge empire. He shares how he cleared his debts and delivered with Hum Paanch. He then shares the whole story behind putting together Mr India - casting Anil, Amrish Puri and the legendary Sridevi ji in the film. He reveals a funny incident of how Sridevi's mom asked for 10 crores to star in Mr India and he paid her 11 crore. After that, Boney ji reflects on his father's life, staying in a one room apartment and how after several blockbusters, Roop Ki Rani Choron ka Raja turned out to be a huge disaster and put him under a massive Rs 12 crore debt again. But then Judaai and Ladlaa happened and he shares most producers were wary of Judaai given that he was already married to Sridevi who was cast opposite her brother-in-law Anil in the film.
