‘O Mio Babbino Caro’ by Giacomo Puccini from the Opera ‘Gianni Schicchi’

This aria is sung by Lauretta after tensions between her father Schicchi and the family of Rinuccio, the boy she loves; this has reached a breaking point that threatens to separate her from her beloved. Lauretta sings imploringly to her father, that she wants to go and buy a ring and to be with Rinuccio and seeks her father’s approval, or else she will throw herself into the river Arno from the Vecchio Bridge in torment!
