Merrill Jay Singers - Casey Jones (Songs of the Railroad)

 Published On Jan 8, 2023

SONG NOTES:
β€’ The song states that Casey's train "Stopped within an inch from the eastbound freight." Which isn't true, as Casey's train had collided with the cars on the mainline, derailing the engine and killing him.

SONG DESCRIPTION:
Down in Jackson, Tennessee, where the "brave engineer" used to live in a modest frame house and where he is now sleeping out eternity in a small graveyard, his old home has been converted into a public museum. Casey's real name was John Luther Jones. His nickname came from the village of Cayce, Kentucky, in which he was raised. A speed king, he went to glory in 1900 when his engine rammed into a freight train which had failed to clear a siding. Casey was renowned for making his train whistle play tunes, say it's prayers, and "scream like a banshee." Our recording is a new version of the Casey Jones song.

Ripped from the 1998 Rockhaven release.
