'Şirince' in İzmir Selçuk district was selected as the World's "Best Tourism Village" in 2023 by the United Nations World Tourism Organization and managed to be included in the "Best Tourism Villages Network". Şirince village is a touristic village with preserved historical architecture in the Selçuk district of Izmir. It is rumored that its original name, Kırkınca, was given to forty people who hit the mountains in a legendary age1. This name, which takes forms such as Kirkice, Kirkince and finally Çirkince in Greek pronunciation, was formalized as Şirince in the first years of the Republic upon the instructions of Kazım Dirik, the governor of Izmir at the time.

The village was known as a Greek town with 1800 households in the 19th century, famous for its fig production, especially for export. With the departure of the Greeks as a result of the Turkey-Greece population exchange in 1923 (most of them settled in the Nea Efesos village of Katerini), it was settled with exchanges coming from the Müştiyan (Moustheni) and Somokol (Domatia) villages of Kavala2. The village's economy, which was previously based on viticulture, wine production and olive cultivation, was disrupted for a while at the hands of new residents coming from a tobacco region, but in parallel with its increasing touristic importance in recent years, these sectors have started to develop again2. In addition to viticulture and olive cultivation, peaches, figs, apples and walnuts are grown3.

Some Greek houses in the village still serve as hostels. There are also places in the village where cultural and educational activities are carried out, such as the Mathematics Village and Theater Madrasa1. Şirince is one of the places where visitors want to go again and again with its natural and historical beauties. But this beauty was not enough to make the village popular. Until 2012, that is. In 2012, with a rumor spreading from word of mouth, Şirince was suddenly flooded with foreign tourists. It is said that Şirince will be one of the two places in the world that were saved.

After our visit to Şirince, we set off and go to the boutique hostel called l'ombelico di Selçuk, which is located very close to Selçuk. In this video, I will introduce you to l'ombelico di Selçuk Pension, where we stayed after visiting the village. At l'ombelico di Selçuk, you can have a pleasant breakfast in the garden, among the greenery, in the comfort of a modernly decorated small detached house consisting of two rooms, and in the evenings, you can dine in the secret garden of the house, accompanied by a fire. You can easily reach touristic places such as l'ombelico di Selçuk, Şirince village, Ephesus Ancient City, House of Virgin Mary, Temple of Artemis, Kuşadası, Pamukkale and Çeşme. You can find the phone number and Instagram address of the hostel in the description section of our video. Thank you for accompanying us in this video. See you in the next video, goodbye and stay healthy!
