They got their start on the Dr. Demento show, and as a tribute brought in several people who also contributed to the show to appear on the album. Weird Al Yankovic was one of the people chosen, and he provided the accordion for "Gumby Jaws Lament". It's unclear whether Al had anything to do with writing the song, though he probably didn't.
