Tarikh Episode 695

In this episode Nikhil talks about the incredible true story of Juliane Koepcke, the sole survivor of LANSA Flight 508's tragic crash in the Amazon rainforest. LANSA Flight 508 was a tragic aviation accident that occurred on December 24, 1971, in Peru. The flight, operated by Líneas Aéreas Nacionales Sociedad Anónima (LANSA), was en route from Lima to Pucallpa. The aircraft involved was a Lockheed L-188A Electra, a turboprop airliner.
Shortly after takeoff, the flight encountered severe thunderstorms, typical of the region during the rainy season. The aircraft was struck by lightning, causing catastrophic damage to its right wing. The wing broke off, leading to the disintegration of the aircraft mid-air.
The crash site was located in the dense Amazon rainforest near the town of Pucallpa. Despite the violent nature of the crash, one survivor emerged from the wreckage: 17-year-old Juliane Koepcke. She was ejected from the disintegrating aircraft still strapped to her seat and plummeted over two miles to the ground. Despite severe injuries, including a broken collarbone and a gash to her right arm, Koepcke survived the fall.
Alone and injured in the jungle, Koepcke embarked on a remarkable journey to find help. She navigated through dense vegetation, encountered dangerous wildlife, and endured days of hardship before finally encountering loggers who provided assistance.
