Tarikh Episode 703

In this episode Vipin talks about the Kamikaze pornstar Mitsuyasu Maeno who kamikazed a Yakuza don Yoshio Kodama, a multi-millionaire right-wing leader and leading figure in the Lockheed bribery scandals. The attack was a kamikaze plane attack on Kodama's home, and is considered one of Japan's biggest political scandals.
In the turbulent political and social climate of 1970s Japan, a shocking assassination attempt unfolds in Tokyo's Satagawa neighbourhood. Mitsuyasu Maeno, a troubled porn actor obsessed with the bushido samurai code, targets Yoshio Kodama, a high-ranking figure in the Yakuza and a central player in the Lockheed bribery scandal. Motivated by a desire to redeem Japan's lost honour and seeking revenge for Kodama's betrayal, Maeno orchestrates a kamikaze-style attack by crashing a small aircraft into Kodama's house.
The attempted assassination is a culmination of Japan's post-war struggles with political corruption, nationalist movements, and societal discontent. It echoes the failed coup attempt led by Yukio Mishima and exposes the pervasive bribery culture within Japan's political elite.
Despite Maeno's daring act, the assassination attempt fails to claim Kodama's life, leaving him unharmed while Maeno perishes in the fiery crash. The aftermath of the event sparks mixed reactions, with some praising Maeno's supposed heroism while others condemn it as a misguided spectacle.
The Lockheed bribery scandal, which implicated prominent Japanese politicians like Prime Minister Kakuei Tanaka, ultimately led to legal repercussions and resignations both in Japan and the United States. However, figures like Kodama and Tanaka evade justice, leaving lingering questions about the nature of honour and accountability in Japanese society.
