July 18 2023, 3:08 pm - feisty younger eaglet Tyr at our Surrey Reserve bald eagle cam nest injured his leg in early June and fell a bit behind in development, but that doesn't stop him from competing with older, larger sibling Lof. Tyr may have injured his leg again this morning - see the video "Tyr Takes a Tumble" - but was getting around all right until he and larger sibling Lof decided to do a bit of beaking to decide who was boss for the day. I don't know if Tyr's leg was less stable after the morning fall - or if it's related to the fact the eaglets are 11 weeks old so there's 11 weeks of garbage to trip over, but somehow Tyr's right leg appeared to give way and Tyr ended up flat on his back on the nest. Tyr rolled onto his side, then rested for a few minutes before getting up and moving a bit unsteadily to the edge of the nest. The video shows the activity from both the North/overhead and South/side view cams; I've taken out some sections when Tyr was still to keep the length manageable.
