Correct date 2.6.21 ~ Warning: This video contains footage showing sibling rivalry. Viewer discretion advised for those sensitive viewers.

The E's wake up after being re-nested and are hungry. Their last feeding was over 24 hours ago from CROW and Harriet and M did not bring any food to the nest coming back late in the day. E17 is aggressive to E18 for several minutes before M brings in prey. E18 is submissive and keeps his head down which is normal and smart. M arrives with roadkill rabbit and begins to feed E17 which you can see is even aggressive in that feeding. E18 waits but does not get anything to eat at this time. Later in the morning, M will give E18 a private feeding while E17 is sleeping.

This is not unexpected or unusual to see especially considering the stress this past week. Sibling rivalry is normal at this stage anyway and is a part of every bald eagle nest. E17 is by far the more aggressive eaglet and has established the pecking order here on the nest. It is mostly due to food aggression but with adequate prey brought in, the sibling rivalry should be manageable. Fortunately, the eaglets do outgrow sibling rivalry in the upcoming weeks as we have seen in previous seasons here at SWFEC. It is hard to watch at times but understanding why it happens will make it easier to handle. Thank you for watching!
