This is a short video on how to start a mische technique painting.
I like to draw in my image with pencil then go over it in ballpoint pen (a normal Bic pen works great). Then it’s time for the first color layer. I love using an Oxide Red as it creates beautiful optical greys when you add the other two colors.
Then it’s time for the first layer of egg tempera or casein, whichever one you are using. Even in this first layer, you need to strive for as much value range in the whites as possible. This way you are creating a more realistic and 3D image and the end result will make it worth it.
