November 5 2023, 12:45 pm - a juvenile eagle spent some time at our Boundary Bay Central bald eagle cam nest today, and was chased away by what we think is the resident female (this is the first year we've had cams here so we're learning as we go). Then the female flew off for a few minutes and came back with lunch and was eating for a while, when the youngster (or a similar looking eagle) returned, and tried to take her meal. She flew off, the remains of the meal fell off the perch, and the youngster went in pursuit of her - but then the tide turned, and she chased the youngster off. One thing I noticed is that the female did not appear to have her talons forward to try to harm the intruder but was relying on her forceful personality and possibly larger size to convince him (or maybe her) be be elsewhere. I'm afraid the video is a bit choppy - it's a windy day which may have affected the signal from the cams - but I thought the interaction was worth documenting. You can watch them live at https://hancockwildlife.org/boundary-..., and we'd love to have more observers join us on the forum to help document the activities at this nest - link is https://forum.hancockwildlife.org/vie... ~JudyB
