In this Jazz Piano online course I will bring you from the level of a complete jazz beginner up to the level of an intermediate/advanced pianist. We will talk about both theory and applications, and cover concepts ranging from chords and scales, to diatonic harmony, voicings, substitutions, soloing, tensions, and much more. Course playlist:

   • Jazz Piano for Complete Beginners

In the eighth lesson we will look at advanced jazz chords which utilize chord extensions (or, as they're sometimes called, tensions): these are scale degrees that go beyond the seventh - such as the ninth, eleventh and thirteenth - and which are sometimes altered, meaning raised or flattened. We will go over some famous voicings for such chords by great pianists like Herbie Hancock and Bill Evans, and finally put them to use in voicing a simple jazz piano ballad.
