After a sleepless night worrying about his daughter, Okonkwo eventually finds Ekwefi waiting outside the cave where Chielo took Ezinma. When Chielo returns with Ezinma in the morning, she ignores them and takes the sleeping girl back home, followed by her anxious parents.

The next day, the village celebrates the uri, a ritual in the marriage process, hosted by Okonkwo's friend Obierika for his daughter. Ekwefi, exhausted from the previous night, delays attending until Ezinma wakes. Meanwhile, Okonkwo's other wives and children proceed to Obierika's compound.

At the celebration, preparations are underway, with Obierika slaughtering goats and women cooking for the feast. Amidst the festivities, a loose cow causes a commotion, and the women organize to retrieve it, ensuring all contribute to the effort.

The palm-wine ceremony begins with the arrival of the new in-laws, who present Obierika's family with fifty pots of wine. The festivities continue into the night with singing and dancing, marking a joyous occasion for all involved.
