In this short video, I wanted to show a mische technique painting from start to finish. This is not the usual way I do the mische technique, which is a much more in depth underpainting with three color layers, but rather a simple, quick way of achieving a high contrast underpainting which is then glazed over with local color. This underpainting is great if you want to achieve a certain mood to your paintings, one of a cool depth of darkness or night. In this case, because I was painting something that was both space and the tiny forest floor, I wanted that burnt umber to be my guiding base color and the highlights to be in stark contrast to that.
The story of this piece is really cool. Based on the couples wedding sermon, this illustrates a moment of intention setting. The direct quote is:

"Empty space, no other than mind without thought, manifests as the goddess Wonder.
The myriad things, no other than meanings in motion, manifest as the god Play.
Mingling their fluidities—Curiosity and Creation—transforms fascination into clarity and bliss.”

Let me know what you think of this process in the comments and thank you for watching!
