In this masterclass, Profesor Pavel Vernikov works with the student Miguel Colom the Caprice no. 21 in A major by Paganini. This class took place at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía de Madrid in 2007.

Student: Miguel Colom
Venue: Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía (Pozuelo de Alarcón, Madrid) 06/03/2007

N. Paganini: 24 Caprices for solo violin op. 1 - No. 21 in la major, Amoroso

Abstract:
The class focuses on a passage of double stops from the beginning of the caprice, improving those technical aspects that can influence the quality of the sound.
The student needs more contact with the string, for that Professor Vernikov gives him some indication on how to put and hold the bow. The movement of the right hand should be more supple to improve the sound. The singing has to be something internal, it has to spring from the body, from the guts. Bow speed changes can be a resource to give it more expressiveness.
