kahan se aaya kahan jaoge? - Running around as we are – like headless chickens in a hundred different directions – this song stops us in our tracks. In his sharp and in-your-face manner, Kabir asks us the most basic question of all, which we persistently neglect to ask ourselves: Where have we come from? Where are we going? How could we have a satisfactory direction to our lives without grappling with this fundamental question? And how could we possibly grapple with this question without looking deeper into our own selves?

Hindu, Muslim both deluded, always fighting
Yogi, Sheiks, wandering Jains,
all of them lost in greed


The Kazi reads the Quran 
then grabs someone's land
Cant see the lord in every breath
takes a chicken, smashes its head!


outwardly he meditates, stock-still inside his thoughts keep jumping 
Outside saintly, inside filthy
mind tainted, he swallows a fish 

with garlands, holy marks 
on arms and forehead 
He's lost his way in fast and pilgrimages
this one sings, strums and entertains the world  
but not aware of his own body

unthinking he reads the Gita
his awareness unsparked 
Kabir says, listen seekers
coming and going, they wander on
