E23 is on the attic at the end of the day with the setting sun casting a warm and golden glow upon h/her. E23 has a short respite from the shrikes but then they return to pester E23. Enjoy the gorgeous closeups and glamour shots of E23 who is 113 days old!

So when will E23 leave the area & start life on its own? The fledglings from the Florida area usually disperse from their natal site around 1-2 months after fledging and head north. After fledging, for the next five years the eagles will travel with other immatures/eagles to wherever there is food, learning where good food sources are and learning hunting techniques from the other eagles. They will also rely heavily on stealing food from others in the early years.. Typically they return to their natal area when they are ready to choose a territory, but for 4-5 years they may travel to different locations.

While traveling to different locations the sub-adults will eventually determine what territory suits them - choosing a location that offers good hunting and nest trees. The number of years before they determine which territory suits them varies. Generally by the time an eagle reaches their fourth year they are actively looking for a territory and mate.

Let's hope that E23 will stick around for another couple of weeks before beginning its solo journey! Thank you for watching!
