Course Playlist:    • Jazz Piano for Complete Beginners

In this Jazz Piano online course I will bring you from the level of a complete jazz beginner up to the level of an intermediate/advanced pianist. We will talk about both theory and applications, and cover concepts ranging from chords and scales, to diatonic harmony, voicings, substitutions, soloing, tensions, and much more.

In the tenth lesson I will cover voicings in fourths, aka quartal harmony/voicings. This type of sound was popularized by jazz pianists from the 60s and 70s, most famously by Bill Evans and later on McCoy Tyner. However, you can hear this kind of playing all around - even in the playing of pianists like Joe Hisaishi, who composed a lot of the music for Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli films. We'll cover So-What chords, voicings in perfect fourths, sus chords, chromatic approaches, voicing in interlocked fifths, practicing in minor thirds, and more!
