Here is my dad's reaction to one of my favourite songs of all time: Ex-Factor by Ms. Lauryn Hill. 'The Score' by the Fugees was one of the very first hip-hop albums that I ever really sunk my teeth into. Pras, Wyclef, and Lauryn were all unique archetypes to create a beautifully dynamic, immersive experience that was 'The Score'. I particularly fell in love with Lauryn's honest, non-contrived approach on the mic. As a teenager, I was enthralled with her ability to create something fresh on each song, from her flow, cadence, and magical vocal sections.

A year or so after, I discovered her Magnum Opus: 'The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill'. Despite it only being two years later, she exhibits a level of wisdom that was remarkable for her age. The amount of emotional trauma that went on between this time made her even more in-tune with herself. On this album, she blends together so many different genres, and influences, and proudly wears them on her sleeve; while being able to show a severe amount of originality in the process.
