Okonkwo finds satisfaction in the destruction of the church, feeling a return to normalcy in daily life. However, when summoned by the District Commissioner to explain their actions, he and other village leaders are unexpectedly arrested. The Commissioner insists on the rule of law and imposes a heavy fine on them. Despite mistreatment in prison, they eventually agree to pay the fine. Meanwhile, rumors of harsh consequences circulate, leading the villagers to hastily gather the required funds to secure the leaders' release.
