November 18 2023, 10:43 am - we have not seen much activity at the bald eagle nest in Harrison Mills since we installed the new cams this summer - LOTS of eagles down by the river, but no one showing any interest in the nest. Then today, an adult landed on the nest, looked around, and moved a stick from the middle of the nest to the rail area - great! And then a second eagle arrived, looking a bit bigger so maybe the female - wonderful!! And then the new arrival charged the first eagle, who wisely flew off; the second one looked around briefly, then also left. My current guess is that the resident pair (or perhaps a new pair of residents) are planning to nest in the territory, and are walking a fine line between defending the area and ignoring the hundreds of eagles gathered by the river, in clear view of the nest. We still don't know if the resident pair has a new nest, or if they're waiting for the eagles on the river to move on before working on the nest with the cameras. We obviously hope they choose to fix up their old nest - but only the eagles know for sure. Watch them live here - https://hancockwildlife.org/harrison-... ~JudyB
