How to release emotions trapped in your body - Dr. David Hawkins “Letting go” technique

My name is Lia, author of the book “Transform your life: 10 steps to release what doesn’t serve you and build the life you truly want”.

In this video I want to talk to you about one of the best techniques to let go of emotions and that is the letting to technique by Dr. David Hawkins. I talk a lot about it in my book and wpuld like to show you step by step how to implement it.

Dr. David Hawkins was a psychiatrist, pysichian and spiritual teacher. He wrote several books about conciousness and the different levels we can reach throught our spiritual journey. He is most famous for his map of conciousness and the muscle testing technique he uses to draw his conclusions. If you are interested in his work I really recommend the books Letting go and Power vs Force.

Dr. Hawkins explains in his book that we normally either repress, supress or express deep negative emotions but that is not really healthy for us. When we repress them, they are stored in our bodies and subconious minds and afect our behaviours and decisions.

When we supress them, we just try to numb the feeling by getting distracted but we don`t really acknowledge them. They are in our concious mind but we actively decide not to deal with them.

When we express them, like when we talk to someone about them, we release part of the emotion but not completely. We are just experiencing it again and again but not really letting it go. To truly let go of an emotion we need to feel it in our bodies, experience the feelings ans surrender to them until they are no longer there.

So the technique goes as follow. The first step is to identify the emotion of feeling caused by it. We might know it is anger or grief but sometimes we dont even realize what it is and just feel discomfort.

The second step is to sit in a quiet place and let the emotion take over our bodies. Experience the feelings and acknowledge them. We can even feel the energy moving form one place to the other. We need to surrender to the feelings. Not trying to control them or release them immediatly. Let them be there without constraining our bodies. Breathe deeply and sit with them.

After a few minutes of this exercise it is very common for the emotion to go away. Because emotions are there for a reason, they are there to teach us something or send us a message about something going on in our lives. When we receive the message, the emotion is no longer necessary and it releases from our body.
