This talk assumes you have listened to this episode of the incredible Your Undivided Attention podcast:

So if you haven't yet, do that now.
Now that you've begun the descent into the inferno of understanding social media's race to the bottom of the brainstem, you'll want to arm yourself in a few ways. Knowledge is power and even knowing what's going on can help bring awareness to your relationship with your apps and devices. Get involved if you feel called with the Center for Humane Technology - they are doing great things on a political and tech level and fighting for the changes in policy that will make our tech safer for us as inidiviuals and societies.
But while that's going on, I propose that we become aware of how to make our apps, our algorithms, works for us rather than we work for them. What do I mean?
Social media algorithms make an avatar of you, a copy so precise that it's predictions begin to know what you want before your conscious mind seems to know that you want it. What if instead of being taken in by this predictive algorithm and clicking on what it wants you to click on, you turn the tables and only click on what you want - what you actually like and want to see more of. What if you could create that virtual avatar to be a version of yourself that is helpful, thoughtful and is a better version of yourself?
How? Watch my video and find out.
