July 31 2023, 7:48 am - 13-week-old eaglet Lof took her first flight away from our Surrey Reserve bald eagle cam nest this morning, flying strongly, I think towards the water, where one or both of her parents might have been perched. It's a little after noon as I post this, and so far she hasn't returned to the nest. Most fledglings do return, but some take longer than others. One of the local observers did report seeing a large fledgling in Peace Arch Park, and noted it was in a tree where he'd seen the adults perch; that's only about 400m/1300ft from the nest - so definitely possible that was Lof.
